Working with British Growers

On average, only 10% of all flowers and foliage sold in the UK are grown here. 20 years ago that figure was 45%. Our aim is to redress the balance and by 2010 source 45% from this country. We have started the process already, and in 2007 averaged 25%. By going direct we get the freshest flowers, are able to work with the seasons and take advantage of the growers’ expertise in specialist varieties. Because of the short supply chain, we can use delicate and scented flowers in our bouquets, such as narcissi, sweet peas and English garden roses. At present we buy flowers and foliage from 15 specialist growers in the UK, all of whom we visit regularly. Our bouquets include arums from Hampshire, garden roses from Suffolk, violets from Cornwall, sweet peas and cymbidium orchids from Sussex.
